(Teas (bush and climbing forms)) A sumptuous blend of deep rose-pink, warm orange and soft lilac melts toward a paler, almost luminous centre, creating flowers of extraordinary, ever-shifting complexity. The fully quartered blooms are richly formed and carried with generous abandon from early summer well into autumn, making this one of the most reliably long-flowering of the old Teas. Named in honour of Archduke Joseph of Austria, this rose carries an aristocratic elegance entirely befitting its distinguished namesake.

Frequently asked questions

Bare-root Archiduc Joseph roses are best planted during their dormant season, from November to March, which is also when we dispatch them. Potted roses are grown in containers and can be planted at any time of year — just avoid periods of hard frost or drought, and water thoroughly after planting.

Every rose we sell is covered by our 1-year Rose Guarantee, so you can plant Archiduc Joseph with confidence. See our Rose Guarantee page for the full details.

Often, yes — we grow our roses ourselves and stock varies through the season, so a variety that's sold out can come back. Use the "Notify me" button above to be emailed the moment Archiduc Joseph is back in stock.

Archiduc Joseph's mature growth range is 150cm x 90cm (5ft x 3ft). Growing conditions such as soil, sunlight, feeding and pruning can affect the final size, so treat this as a guide rather than an exact figure.

Climbing roses produce fewer, larger flowers on stiffer, more upright growth, and most repeat-flower through summer with a light prune each year. Rambling roses grow much more vigorously on long, flexible canes and produce one spectacular flush of smaller flowers in early-to-midsummer, usually pruned just after flowering rather than in winter.

Archiduc Joseph belongs to our Teas (bush and climbing forms) family of roses.
