Shop Roses By Group

Every rose has a natural habit, whether that's climbing, rambling, standing as a shrub or trained as a standard. Shop our collection grouped by rose type to find the right form for your garden, whether you're training one over an archway or filling a border.

Understanding rose groups

Roses are traditionally divided into groups according to how they grow, and knowing which group you need makes choosing far easier. Climbing roses are bred to be trained against a wall, fence or arch, sending up long flexible stems that can be tied in as they grow, while rambling roses are more vigorous still, often scrambling through trees or over large structures in a single flush of flower.

Shrub roses are the most versatile group, forming free-standing bushes that suit borders and mixed planting, and within this group you'll find many of our own heritage and modern shrub varieties. Hybrid teas and floribundas are the classic bedding and cutting roses, prized for their shapely blooms and repeat flowering, while patio roses are compact enough for pots and small spaces. Standard roses are trained onto a clear stem to create height and formality in a border or either side of a doorway, and our species roses are closer to the wild roses these garden varieties descend from, often single-flowered and excellent for wildlife. If you're unsure which group suits your space, our Rose Advice Centre has planting guides for every type, and our team can help you match a group to your garden.
