(Modern Climbers) A Peter Beales Roses introduction, this magnificent climber produces an exceptionally long season of bloom from early summer well into autumn, bearing elegant Hybrid Tea-shaped flowers in a glowing, warm pink with softly paling outer petals — a thoroughly captivating combination. The foliage is a rich, dark glossy green, providing a handsome backdrop to the continuous succession of blooms. Named in honour of the much-loved and greatly respected British actor Sir John Mills, it is a fitting tribute to a remarkable man.

Frequently asked questions

Bare-root Sir John Mills roses are best planted during their dormant season, from November to March, which is also when we dispatch them. Potted roses are grown in containers and can be planted at any time of year — just avoid periods of hard frost or drought, and water thoroughly after planting.

Every rose we sell is covered by our 1-year Rose Guarantee, so you can plant Sir John Mills with confidence. See our Rose Guarantee page for the full details.

Often, yes — we grow our roses ourselves and stock varies through the season, so a variety that's sold out can come back. Use the "Notify me" button above to be emailed the moment Sir John Mills is back in stock.

Sir John Mills's mature growth range is 240cm x 120cm (8ft x 4ft). Growing conditions such as soil, sunlight, feeding and pruning can affect the final size, so treat this as a guide rather than an exact figure.

Climbing roses produce fewer, larger flowers on stiffer, more upright growth, and most repeat-flower through summer with a light prune each year. Rambling roses grow much more vigorously on long, flexible canes and produce one spectacular flush of smaller flowers in early-to-midsummer, usually pruned just after flowering rather than in winter.

Sir John Mills belongs to our Modern Climbers family of roses.
