(Noisettes and close relatives) A sumptuous climber bearing large, quartered blooms in a rich, deep apricot-orange, their full-petalled rosette form unfolding with an almost peony-like opulence. Repeat-flowering reliably from early summer into autumn, the blooms carry a pleasing moderate fragrance and are borne in generous clusters that glow warmly against the foliage. Named in honour of the Duchess of Auerstädt, this distinguished Noisette evokes the grandeur of nineteenth-century French rose breeding at its most extravagant.
