Westerland shrub rose

Bought this some years ago. Its strong tall vigorous shrub rose. It stays quite healthy until late in the year. As long as you keep dead heading this rose keeps flowering and developing new shoots. Suggest not pruning late in the year to protect late shoots from frost. Very fragrant . Brilliant lovely colour that pictures can't do justice and a bit changeable in colour with heat. My favourite rose in my collection. Needs strong support when it gets tall.

Its billowing grey-green foliage softens bare rose stems, and its long flowering season keeps pollinators visiting long after the first flush of roses is over.

Frequently asked questions

Bare-root Westerland roses are best planted during their dormant season, from November to March, which is also when we dispatch them. Potted roses are grown in containers and can be planted at any time of year — just avoid periods of hard frost or drought, and water thoroughly after planting.

Every rose we sell is covered by our 1-year Rose Guarantee, so you can plant Westerland with confidence. See our Rose Guarantee page for the full details.

Often, yes — we grow our roses ourselves and stock varies through the season, so a variety that's sold out can come back. Use the "Notify me" button above to be emailed the moment Westerland is back in stock.

Westerland's mature growth range is 150cm x 90cm (5ft x 3ft). Growing conditions such as soil, sunlight, feeding and pruning can affect the final size, so treat this as a guide rather than an exact figure.

Shrub roses are a broad, informal group bred mainly for garden performance rather than a single flower shape — most repeat-flower generously, have good disease resistance, and combine well with other plants in a mixed border. They typically grow into a rounded, bushy shape rather than climbing or trailing.

Westerland belongs to our Modern Shrubs group.
