(Hybrid Teas) Uncle Walter produces shapely, high-centred blooms of vivid scarlet-crimson, carried in impressive large trusses along sweeping, arching branches — an almost shrub-like presence that sets it apart from more restrained Hybrid Teas. The flowers are generously fragrant and repeat faithfully from summer well into autumn, offering an exceptionally long season of colour. Named in honour of Walter Johnston, uncle of the breeder Sam McGredy IV, this is a rose of real character and old-fashioned generosity.

  • Lavender

    Lavender

Why grow this with Uncle Walter?

A classic rose companion: its silvery foliage and compact habit hide bare lower stems, and it shares roses' love of full sun and free-draining soil.

  • Allium

    Allium

Why grow this with Uncle Walter?

Its architectural purple globes rise above rose foliage in early summer, and its onion-family scent is thought to help confuse pests that target roses.

Why grow this with Uncle Walter?

  • Hardy Geranium

    Hardy Geranium

Why grow this with Uncle Walter?

A low, spreading habit that shades the soil around a rose's roots, helping keep them cool while suppressing weeds at the base of the border.

  • Lady's Mantle

Why grow this with Uncle Walter?

Soft, scalloped leaves and frothy lime-green flowers make an easy edging that catches morning dew and softens the front of a rose border.
