(Polyanthas and older floribundas) Gruss an Aachen produces generous clusters of sumptuous, fully double blooms in the softest creamy-white, their quartered petals holding a faint blush at the heart that fades to ivory with age. Sweetly fragrant and remarkably free-flowering, this rose blooms with extraordinary persistence from early summer well into autumn, rarely pausing for breath. Named as a salute to the German city of Aachen upon its introduction in 1909, it remains one of the most beloved and enduring roses in cultivation.

Frequently asked questions

Bare-root Gruss An Aachen roses are best planted during their dormant season, from November to March, which is also when we dispatch them. Potted roses are grown in containers and can be planted at any time of year — just avoid periods of hard frost or drought, and water thoroughly after planting.

Every rose we sell is covered by our 1-year Rose Guarantee, so you can plant Gruss An Aachen with confidence. See our Rose Guarantee page for the full details.

Often, yes — we grow our roses ourselves and stock varies through the season, so a variety that's sold out can come back. Use the "Notify me" button above to be emailed the moment Gruss An Aachen is back in stock.

Gruss An Aachen's mature growth range is 60cm x 45cm (2ft x 1.5ft). Growing conditions such as soil, sunlight, feeding and pruning can affect the final size, so treat this as a guide rather than an exact figure.

Floribunda roses produce large clusters of blooms on each stem rather than one flower at a time, giving a bold, continuous show of colour from summer into autumn. They're generally bushier and more free-flowering than Hybrid Teas, making them excellent for borders and bedding.

Gruss An Aachen is a Floribunda rose.

Polyantha roses are compact, hardy varieties that produce large sprays of small flowers almost continuously through the season. They were the forerunners of today's Floribundas and remain popular for low borders, edging and pots.

Gruss An Aachen is a Polyantha rose.
