(Hybrid Perpetuals) A magnificent repeat-flowering rose producing large, full, high-centred blooms of rich strawberry red that reflex to a deep crimson carmine — sumptuous in both colour and form. The flowers carry a powerful, heady fragrance and return reliably through summer and well into autumn, giving months of generous display. Named in honour of French horticulturalist Alfred Colomb, this venerable Victorian variety remains a testament to the golden age of the Hybrid Perpetual.

Beautiful flowers and scent

I bought this rose as it appeared on a list my grandmother had written in the 1920’s, I believe, and I was therefore curious.
Sometimes older roses can be disease prone . This has not been the case. It is very fragrant and the flowers appear in large clusters. They are a dark but a very pleasing red, not at all sombre. It repeats continuously. Lovely rose.

Its billowing grey-green foliage softens bare rose stems, and its long flowering season keeps pollinators visiting long after the first flush of roses is over.
